Nia (Neuromuscular Integrative Action) is a mix of martial arts, dance arts and healing arts. Since 1983, people have been dancing and moving in the 52 “poses” of Nia, which encourages people to use pleasure, not pain, as their guide. In other words, you won’t hear the words “feel the burn” in a Nia class.
If you’d like to try a Nia movement fitness class, and do good for others, check out the Nia class benefiting Cancer Lifeline on Saturday, December 31, from 12:00pm – 2:00pm at DanceWorks Studio in Redmond.
Pauline Osborne, certified Nia instructor who teaches at DanceWorks Studio, along with five other Eastside Nia teaches, will host the 90-minute body-mind fitness class. The focus will be on “Renew your body; renew your life; renew your community.” Door prizes from Nia teachers and local businesses will be given away. The minimum donation is $15. All proceeds will benefit Cancer Lifeline.
You don’t have to have any Nia experience to join in the Renewal class. You’ll slip off your socks and shoes and dance barefoot to a variety of rhythmic music styles. The class will begin with a slow warm-up, transforming into high energy ‘get-moving’ choreography and dance, cooling down and finishing with a Renewal Meditation. Nia incorporates nine movement forms from the martial arts, dance arts and healing arts. You will leave feeling energized, renewed and smiling and ready to take on the New Year!
Cancer Lifeline will be benefiting from this class. Cancer Lifeline is a non-profit organization that provides emotional support, resources, educational classes and exercise programs to people living with cancer as well as their friends, co-workers and caregivers. All services provided by Cancer Lifeline are free. More about Cancer Lifeline can be found at http://www.cancerlifeline.org. Contact DanceWorks Studio to register for the Nia class:
